Offshore staff

HOUSTON – Reports from Guyana indicate that an offshore rig heading from Louisiana to Guyana to drill for ExxonMobil has been met with objections from Venezuela.

The Guyana Ministry of Natural Resources said the Deep Water Champion expects to start drilling this month in ExxonMobil’s Liza field.

Venezuela’s objections involve Essequibo, an area of 167,839 sq km (64,800 sq mi) administered by Guyana but claimed by Venezuela.

Guyana also recently approved a request from ESSO for a geological and geophysical survey in the form of 3D seismic survey offshore. The Ministry said CGG Service (UK) Ltd. now has a permit to conduct the survey.
